Mindbody and Shopify: Sell Gift Vouchers Online, Redeemable Today
Use ShopConnect's flexible sales sync triggers and service location selection so a day spa can sell Shopify vouchers that are instantly redeemable in Mindbody.

The Voucher Redemption Headache
Picture an illustrative day spa that sells gift vouchers heavily in November and December. Vouchers are the highest-margin product in the catalog (no cost of goods, often partially unredeemed), and selling them online can triple December revenue. The catch: the front desk needs to redeem those vouchers in Mindbody the moment the recipient walks in. Not after an overnight sync. Not after a manual lookup. Now.
Most spas that try to sell vouchers online end up emailing a PDF code and crossing their fingers. The front desk types the code into a spreadsheet, marks it used, and applies the discount in Mindbody by hand. That works for ten vouchers a month. It does not work for the Saturday after Thanksgiving.
There is a seasonality angle here. Vouchers are not spread evenly across the year. November and December produce roughly 60 percent of annual voucher revenue for a typical spa. Mother’s Day and Valentine’s Day add another 15 percent. Your voucher process has to absorb a 5x spike over a six-week window without the front desk drowning. A workflow built for ten vouchers a month has to handle 120 in a week.
What the PDF-Code Workaround Really Costs
A PDF voucher with a code is fine. A PDF voucher with a code your register does not recognize is not. That handoff failure is the entire problem.
Patched-together solutions can email the PDF. They cannot make the voucher show up in the recipient’s Mindbody account as a redeemable credit. They cannot transfer the credit to a different person. They cannot tell the front desk the remaining balance on a partly-used voucher. Custom-built solutions can, but then you are spending $15,000 to build something a turnkey product offers for a low monthly fee.
Redemption is the second hidden cost. A voucher might be redeemed in full on one visit, partially across three visits, transferred from gifter to recipient after purchase, combined with a member discount, or refunded if unused after it expires. Each of those needs the Mindbody side to know the current balance, the current owner, and the current state. PDF-code workflows track none of this.
How ShopConnect Makes Vouchers Instantly Redeemable
ShopConnect treats an online voucher purchase the same way it treats a class pack: as something that activates immediately on the Mindbody side. The dollar value lands as a gift card or account credit on the recipient’s Mindbody profile. The front desk redeems it in Mindbody like any other gift card. No spreadsheets, no PDF lookup, no manual discount entry.
You choose exactly which items round-trip between the two systems. Vouchers are in. Tips are out. Account payments are usually out. ShopConnect also handles the case where the buyer (the gifter) and the recipient are different people, so the credit lands on the right account.
ShopConnect handles the gift transfer by reading the recipient field on the checkout and attaching the credit to that profile. If the recipient does not exist in Mindbody yet, the profile gets created with the gifter noted as the source (so you know who bought it). If you want to send a fancy gift email with a printable certificate, that can run as a separate step. The integration handles the part that breaks when humans do it by hand: making sure the credit is real and ready in your system.
Expiration is up to you. You set the rule in Mindbody (12 months from purchase, end of next calendar year, never expires), and ShopConnect follows whatever Mindbody says. The front desk sees the right expiration on the client profile.
How It Works in Plain Terms
You set up your gift voucher in Mindbody as a pricing option or gift card item and mark it “Sell Online.” ShopConnect publishes it to Shopify with the right denominations and tax behavior. At checkout, the buyer enters the recipient’s email. On payment, ShopConnect creates the recipient’s Mindbody profile if needed and posts the voucher as a redeemable credit on it.
The recipient walks in. The front desk pulls up her name, sees the gift credit, and redeems it against the day’s services like any other gift card. Partial redemptions update the remaining balance in real time, so she can use the rest on her next visit.
Before December, it is worth running a few test purchases in early November to confirm the front-desk redemption feels instant and your team knows how to find and apply the credit. ShopConnect creates the credit; you still own the gifting experience, so a clean post-purchase email with a printable certificate turns a transaction into something the gifter wants to forward.
Representative Voucher Throughput at 6 Estheticians
Here is a hypothetical example. A single-location day spa historically sold roughly $42,000 in vouchers in December, almost all in person. After turning on online voucher sales through ShopConnect, December voucher revenue moves to around $98,000, with the lift coming from corporate gifters, out-of-state family, and last-minute orders on December 23rd and 24th. Front desk time on voucher reconciliation drops from approximately twelve hours in late December to under one. Redemption errors (wrong amount, wrong recipient, double redemption) drop to effectively zero.
There is a marketing payoff too. Clean voucher data (who bought, who received, when it was redeemed, partial versus full) lets you run targeted campaigns: a follow-up to recipients who never redeemed, a thank-you to gifters, an anniversary offer to recipients who came once and never returned. None of that is possible when voucher data lives in a spreadsheet.
Why This Matters for Your Bottom Line
Vouchers are a redemption problem, not a sales problem. The sale is easy. The redemption is where the experience lives or dies. A real credit on the recipient’s profile is the right model, because PDF codes cost you more staff hours with every voucher you sell. And keep the connection tight: just because two systems can sync everything does not mean they should. Sync the vouchers, leave the tips out.
